Google has started rolling out an update in the Google Play Store that will personalize your app reviews based on the type of device you are using. This could help make it easier to see how apps perform on various devices, including tablets and wearables. The new feature could essentially explain the difference in the performance of apps on different devices.
Google announced this feature in August 2021, originally announced for early 2022, but there was no sign of it until recently. The Verge noticed this change was quietly rolled out, with the Play Store confirming that people won’t be seeing the same reviews.
Google Play Store App Reviews On Your Device Type Is Useful
This feature will become very useful to users as Android apps are in various form factors; someone using a Samsung Galaxy Flip 4 will experience an app differently from someone using an Oppo Find X5. And if you are trying to install an app on your smartwatch, you don’t have to read tons of reviews about the app’s phone versions. It’s important to note that the feature is about what type of device you have, not what physical model you carry.
Tapping on the Reviews option in an app now shows a dialogue box that informs users that:
‘Ratings are based on recent reviews from people in your region who use the same type of device that you use. People provide reviews with a verified Google account based on the experience with apps they have downloaded.’
